The International Center for Teaching Jewish Civilization at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is organizing a four-week internship in Jewish Studies for young researchers from Central-Eastern Europe. We are accepting applications from young scholars from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Romania, and Bulgaria.
This year, the internship will take place between July 27 and August 23, 2025. Young researchers, including PhD students and post-doctoral scholars, in various fields of Jewish Studies in the broadest meaning, including Israel Studies, are encouraged to apply for this internship. We are eager to continue operating this successful internship program yet holding it will depend on the evolving situation in Israel (we will keep in close communication with the candidates concerning any developments in this regard).
The internship grant, provided by the Nadav Fund, covers airfare, housing in university dorms, an academic program, and access to Israeli libraries and archives. Additionally, we will provide a modest per diem, to help cover their everyday expenses.
We will pair each intern with an Israeli academic mentor who will meet them at least twice during the internship period to offer advice and guidance. This year, the internship will coincide with the World Congress of Jewish Studies, and we plan to incorporate attendance at Congress sessions into the program.
Due to the limited number of grants available, we encourage potential participants to submit their applications as soon as possible so we can select the best candidates based on academic excellence.
We kindly ask you to encourage your students and young colleagues who meet the internship criteria (at the doctorate or post-doctoral stage, focusing on Jewish topics) to apply promptly.
Applications will be accepted until April 20, 2025 and grant recipients will be announced by May 10, 2025.
The application must include:
1) CV
2) Brief description of a specific research project on which the candidate is planning to work during the internship, including a short bibliography (1-2 pages overall)
3) Short motivation letter on how this internship will help to advance his/her research.
