Internship on Jewish Studies for Young Researchers from Central-Eastern Europe

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel

July 28 – August 22, 2024

The International Center for Teaching Jewish Civilization (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) is organizing a month-long internship on Jewish Studies in Jerusalem for young researchers from Central-Eastern Europe. We are inviting applications from young scholars from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Romania, and Bulgaria.

The internship will take place between 28 July and 22 August 2024.  Young researchers (PhD students and post-doctoral scholars) in various fields of Jewish Studies in the broadest meaning, including Israel Studies, are invited to apply for this internship. We are eager to continue operating this successful internship program yet holding it will depend on the evolving situation in Israel (we will be in close communication with the candidates regarding any developments in this respect).

The internship grant, provided by the Nadav fund, covers airfare, housing at the university dorms, academic program, and access to Israeli libraries and archives. We will match every intern with an Israeli academic mentor who will meet with him or her at least twice during the internship period to provide advice and guidance. We will also pay a modest sum per diem, partly covering their everyday expenses.

The number of the grants available is limited, the best applications will be selected on academic excellence basis.

Deadline for applications is April 15, 2024.

The recipients of the grant will be announced by April 30. 2024.

The application must include:

  • CV
  • Brief description of a specific research project on which the candidate is planning to work during the internship, including a short bibliography (1-2 pages overall)
  • Short motivation letter on how this internship will help to advance his/her research.
